7 Lessons I learnt from the movie -“2 States”

Finally, got to see the Long awaited movie, “2 States” based on Chetan bhagat’s novel “2 states”. This is not any kind of review of the film but the lessons that I learnt from the movie. Strictly for those who have seen the movie  and those who have not seen it , see it, come back and read on…:-)

1. If you assume , you make an ass of “U” n “Me”

Making Assumption can be dangerous at times. Being Judgemental about things without knowing about them can land your thought process in trouble. Here, when Kavita ( Amrita Singh) meets Ananya’s (Alia) parents for the first time,  she addresed them as cunning and not so talented as she believed so…..Ananya’ s parents believed Punjabis as Uncultured people.

Lesson: We live with so many presumptions in our day to day life that we don’t even feel the need to figure out if it is True or not. There should be some basis for our beliefs.

2. Difference is not between communities but between two people:

It is not about adjusting with different cultures and customs but different attitudes and temperament of the people. Krish (Arjun) very clearly raises this point to his mother Kavita that if she feels Ananya is from different community and she will not be able to adjust with our family, then why did his parents’ marriage failed despite being from the same Punjabi Community.

Lesson: Despite all diversification, human being is same throughout universe. Rather than identifying differences between communities, one should focus on becoming a better person and make difference to the community.

3. Your parents will always be your parents:

However rough relationship one shares with one’s parents, they will always think good of us in their hearts. Mr. Malhotra ( Arjun’s father) didn’t get off well with anyone in the family and shared very bad equation with Krish to an extent that he even got slapped by his son once. But towards the end, his father was the one who without knowing anything went all the way to Chennai to set things straight between two families just for his son’s happiness.

One good deed helped him undo all his past wrong doings.

Lesson:Parents may not be there when you want them but they will be there when you need them.

4. Be what your heart wants you to be:

Krish was an IIT and IIM graduate but in his heart he always wanted to be a Writer. He did write his book , getting it published was not his agenda but writing a book was his agenda.

Lesson: Follow your heart. Don’t compromise on your passion because Passion is one element which will fade off if not given proper environment for it to Nurture.

5. Respect can’t be demanded but has to be commanded:

When Mr. Malhotra demanded respect from Krish, he never got it. He gradually earned his respect from his son by changing his attitude towards his family.

Lesson: You can’t order your kids to respect you, make yourself such that they adulate you and consider you your Role model.

6. Love should be Dedicated and True:

Love without dedication is like shooting with bow and arrow without any aim. If you Love someone with your true dedication and whole heartedly, no power on this universe can stop it from taking a beautiful shape. The same could be very evidently seen in Krish and Ananya’s Chemistry.

Lesson: A famous Urdu couplet says it all “Khudi ko kar buland itna, ke har takdeer se pehlay
Khuda bande se khud puche, bata teri raza kiya hai. “

chetan-bhagat

7. Follow your heart and everything will follow you:

While writing his novel “2 states” Did Chetan Bhagat knew that his book will take shape of a movie..? or Did he write it with this intention?

Lesson: Focus on your Passion 100%, who knows what is in store for you. I am sure at later point in life, you will be able to “Connect the Dots.”

Now, time to to Grab a copy of  2 states 🙂
