Travel insurance is best designed to back you up in simple situations where you prepaid for vacation necessities. While we all understand the importance of having a travel insurance, but you need to take a closer look at your policy to understand what’s not covered!

Here’s a potential travel insurance guide to look out for, and how you could be the lucky one to avoid or find a remedy to it.

  1. Cancellation of trips

Cancelled trips are one primary concern for most of the travelers. Travel insurance does provide coverage for cancellation, but only after reviewing the reason for cancellation since not everything is covered under the policy. Travel insurance policies often provide a list of reasons covered that fall under trip cancellation. If your reason is not listed, you will not benefit from the coverage.

  1. Security delays

Travel insurance policies typically do not cover if you happen to miss a flight due to excessively long queues at TSA. While this doesn’t seem to be your fault, it isn’t the fault of the airport authorities either. If you are a frequent traveler, you would consider pre-checking to avoid last minute delays.

  1. Theft caused due to unsupervised luggage

If you are assuming that you’ll be covered if your purse is snatched with all the valuables while you were in the restroom, that’s not true. While theft is covered under most travel insurances, if the purse had been left unsupervised, it’ll not be covered.  We often witness wallets and phones left at the counters unattended; doing so overseas only means that you are not going to be covered for any of the subsequent loses caused due to ignorance.

  1. Medical-conditions

Most insurers have a pre-decided list of conditions that are covered, while a few conditions that can be covered but at an additional cost. This is why it is vital to understand the insurance policies you choose before going overseas. If you want to seek treatment for a pre-existing condition medical condition which is not listed on your policy, you might have to pay huge bills that won’t be covered.

  1. Cancellation Insurance

Cancellation policies usually cover problems that may occur immediately right before your travel or during your travel. This can include the need for cancelling your trip due to medical emergency, missing your flight or having the need to shorten your trip. If you feel the need to cancel a trip, most policies may cover pre-paid, non-refundable purchases, right from airline tickets to your tour packages.

Experiencing one of these nightmares personally doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re completely at loss. It only means that an ordinary insurance policy won’t cover you entirely, you’ll have to try your hands on the compensation through other means. As long as you research your destination, clearly state your health conditions and know what’s going inside your suitcase, you can easily pick up a travel insurance policy that you can completely rely on!
